Adults
One to one tuition allows me to focus exclusively on the needs of your voice. We begin with a full assessment of your singing and following that assessment, I will be able to answer any questions you may have. I will be able to tell you how realistic your goals are and what you will need to do in order to achieve them. Usually in this first lesson I will give you some technical exercises backed up by songs that we choose, together – and these will be the first steps in the process of your singing development.
First time students have very little idea as to how a lesson will unfold, and sometimes worry about what I expect of them. The answer is pretty straight forward, I don’t expect your singing to be anything other than what it is. My job is to take you from where you are to where you want to go in the shortest possible time.
Children

Your child’s voice is precious to me, and one to one tuition allows me to carefully put in place the technical, vocal and musical training that will serve your child for the rest of their life. It means that they will be prepared for any future vocal commitments that they encounter. Sometimes this means being prepared for scholarship auditions and musical theatre and acting courses, but sometimes this also means auditions for school plays, talent shows and choirs as well as musical and drama events throughout the school year.
These days children also have to perform and present themselves in a wide variety of contexts. A very big part of singing is understanding the psychology and practice of performing. A child who is a confident singer has mastered many of the essential skills to present themselves confidently to the world.
Vocal tuition will give your child the skills simply to enjoy singing for the rest of their life. Essentially your investment in their singing is an investment in their artistic, emotional, musical and physical intelligences – which will provide life long benefits.
The Problem Voice
Vocal problems usually derive from poor vocal technique. If you experience any of the following you will probably be singing with a technique that is getting in the way of your vocal production.
- Dry throat or hoarseness in the morning, after singing the night before
- Vocal tiredness
- Vocal tightness
- A feeling of not being able to get a big enough breath
- A sense of panic whilst singing
- Inability to stay in tune
- Female voices: a thin, weak voice on higher notes and a loud, but not very flexible voice on low notes
- Male voices: an ever increasing tightness the higher you go, then having to switch to a falsetto on high notes

Costs
Naturally, one to one tuition is more expensive than group tuition and is tailored specifically to the needs and personality of that individual. Children’s tuition is slightly discounted for eighteens and under. I will endeavour to find a way to work within most of your budgets. Call me to discuss your needs.
